Environmental Science Exam 1 Practice

The question asks for a term that describes a global, comprehensive assessment of ecological systems and their capacity to support human life. That term is the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment. It was an international effort that synthesized knowledge about the state and trends of ecosystems worldwide and how changes in ecosystems affect human well-being, organizing ecosystem services into provisioning, regulating, supporting, and cultural categories. Its findings emphasized that many ecosystems are in decline and that maintaining or restoring these services is essential for sustaining human life. The other options refer to related ideas or concepts, but not to this large-scale formal assessment.
